The industrial conglomerate Thyssenkrupp is divesting parts of its automation business.

Munich-based company Agile Robots will acquire assets from plant engineering specialist Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering in Europe and North America, which until now have been part of the Automotive Technology segment of Thyssenkrupp AG, the companies announced on Monday. Agile Robots emphasized that the acquisition aims to strengthen its market position in next-generation smart automation solutions. Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering brings technological expertise, long-standing customer relationships, and decades of experience, particularly in the automotive industry.

Agile Robots was founded in 2018 by robotics researchers from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Munich. According to the company, more than 2,500 robotics and AI experts currently work at its sites in Germany, China, and India. With the acquisition of Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, the team will expand by approximately 650 experts. In 2024, Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering reported revenues in the triple-digit million euro range.
