(Alliance News) - Telecom Italia Spa announced on Friday that it has completed Italy's first test of quantum-safe communications between data centers over a live network infrastructure, successfully validating the use of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for encrypting data flows in a real-world operational environment.
As the company explained in a statement, the initiative led by TIM is part of a broader series of projects aimed at strengthening the nation's digital sovereignty, particularly the security of the entire networkdata centercloud ecosystem. The goal is to increase resilience, operational continuity, and the protection of sensitive data.
The test, carried out in collaboration with Cisco, verified the integration of quantum technology with existing network and security architectures.
"This experiment is part of TIM's broader commitment to quantum communications at the European level," the statement added.
