President Trump has threatened 200% tariffs on French wines and champagnes to push French President Emmanuel Macron to join his peace board for Gaza.
Trump announced the Gaza Board of Peace last year as part of the cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas. He expanded the role of the proposed board this month that included a $1 billion fee for a permanent seat, a charter sent to prospective members, including world leaders, said.
However, Trump also brushed off Macron's potential involvement when a reporter told him the French president may have rejected participation.
"Did he say that? Well nobody wants him because he's going to be out of office very soon. So you know, that's all right," Trump said in Miami.
"What I'll do is, if they feel, like, hostile, I'll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he'll join. But he doesn't have to join," he told reporters.
President Macron's term is due to end in May 2027.
Trump also repeated his desire to control Greenland, saying Europe and Denmark couldn't protect the Arctic territory.
"We have to ?have it. They have to ?have this done. They can't protect it, ?Denmark," he said.
