HANOVER (dpa-AFX) - According to Sebastian Ebel, CEO of travel giant TUI, there is currently no shortage of jet fuel and therefore no risk of flight cancellations during the summer holidays. The situation in Germany is "relatively comfortable," he told news channel Welt TV: "We have very high refinery capacities, which were not scaled back in January either. This is a positive, and it means we can assume sufficient security of supply."

TUI has also taken precautions in its kerosene procurement, which ensures cost certainty. Thanks to pre-established oil contracts, he sees no significant impact on short-term business. "What this means in the long term remains to be seen." In his view, no one should be worried about their summer holidays. Regarding airfares, he noted high price stability, subject only to normal fluctuations in demand.

In the unlikely event of flight cancellations due to a fuel shortage, Ebel argued that tour operators should not be held liable for compensation payments. Travel providers bear no responsibility for a kerosene shortage; they should be treated in the same way as severe weather events, for which no compensation is required, the executive said./eks/DP/stw
