The FTSE 100 lost 0.7%. Other stocks in Europe were down as France's CAC 40 decreased 0.6% and Germany's DAX fell 1.2%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 95.59.
In commodities, Brent crude rose 2.2% to $89.69 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 2.2% to $85.29 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 3.8% to 49.19 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield rose by 2 basis points to 2.857% from 2.84%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury was flat at 4.167%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.4%, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 0.2%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 0.2%.
