In commodities, Brent crude fell 5% to $82.98 a barrel, and WTI crude dropped 5.2% to $80.43 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was down 6.1% to 43.93 euros a megawatt hour.
The German 10-year Bund yield fell by 4 basis points to 2.955% from 3%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 5 basis points to 4.439% from 4.489%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 5%, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed 0.6%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 1.6%.
