(Alliance News) - UniCredit has strengthened its position in Commerzbank, bringing its potential stake to 54% of the share capital when accounting for both direct holdings and transaction-linked derivatives, Milano Finanza reported on Wednesday.
According to the latest data, acceptances of the offer have reached 10.9% of the capital. Combined with the 34.4% already held directly, the equity interest of the bank led by Andrea Orcel rises to 37.6%.
Meanwhile, MF adds, UniCredit has dismissed allegations made by Commerzbank regarding the use of derivatives and the methods of disclosing its holdings, describing them as 'devoid of any foundation, whether factual or legal'.
The bank further reiterated that it has operated in full compliance with the rules and in constant dialogue with the German supervisory authority, BaFin.
