BERLIN/ESSEN (dpa-AFX) - The CEO of energy group RWE anticipates indirect effects from US tariffs on the company's investment projects. "Tariffs in the US affect us during the investment phase of new projects," Markus Krebber told the Energie & Klima newsletter from the news portal "Politico". "Once the facilities are built, tariffs no longer play a role for us, since electricity is a product that is generated and consumed locally."
Many observers currently attribute an investment supercycle to the energy sector, as billions are needed solely for the restructuring of Germany's energy infrastructure with the goal of climate neutrality. For RWE, the question also arises as to how available capital will be used going forward.
Nearly a year ago, the DAX-listed group announced a share buyback program. The Essen-based company was responding to delays in its US business, which followed decisions by President Donald Trump to halt the expansion of wind and solar facilities. This also led to a reassessment of RWE's investment basis. Since then, management has imposed stricter requirements on new investments.
RWE plans to present its figures for 2025 on March 12 and, in this context, will also provide an outlook for 2026 and update its plans for the coming years./lew/mne/stw
