Finnish engineering giant Valmet will take part in converting Fortum's Polish combined heat and power plant in Zabrze from coal to biomass.

Currently, the facility operates on 60 percent coal and 40 percent waste-derived fuel.

After the conversion, all coal will be replaced with certified local biomass, which, according to Fortum, is expected to reduce emissions by around 280,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The order value has not been disclosed. Fortum is investing a total of 85 million euros in the project.
