Volkswagen Group has delivered 4 million all-electric vehicles since it launched its first model in 2013, it said Thursday.
"It took us around ten years to deliver the first million pure electric vehicles. The fourth million took just one year," said Chief Executive Oliver Blume.
More than two out of three all-electric vehicles were delivered to customers in Europe, while China accounted for 20% and the U.S. 8%. All other markets combined accounted for 5%.
The most popular vehicle segment for EVs was the compact class, accounting for around 70% of deliveries. This includes vehicles such as the VW ID.3 and ID.4 models, the Skoda Enyaq, the Cupra Born, and the Audi Q4 e-tron.
The German automaker said it has launched around 60 new models across its brands over the past two years, with around one-third of them having an all-electric drive.
The group's brands currently offer more than 30 all-electric vehicles in the passenger car segment as well as all-electric trucks and buses from the Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus brands.
The group is launching more than 20 new models this year, around half of which are all-electric. These include new electric models in China and a new electric urban car family in Europe.
