(Alliance News) - Webuild Spa announced on Wednesday that the group, leading the Metro C Consortium together with Vianini Lavori, has been awarded the contract to build the new T1 section of Rome's Metro Line C, which will connect the Clodio/Mazzini and Farnesina stations.

The project has a total value of EUR776 million, of which EUR268 million pertains to Webuild, and represents a strategic initiative to strengthen public transport in the northern quadrant of the Italian capital.

The news comes after the Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced on Tuesday that it had awarded the contract for the extension of the Red Line of Riyadh's metro to a consortium led by Webuild Spa, in partnership with India's Larsen & Toubro, Saudi Arabia's Nesma, and France's Alstom.

The project involves the construction of an automated metro line 8.4 kilometers long, including 1.3 kilometers on viaduct and 7.1 kilometers in tunnel, as well as five stations — three of which will be underground — and signaling systems. A TBM will be used for tunneling operations.

The group has also signed another major contract in the metro sector, relating to Line 10 of the Naples metro.

The Metro C Consortium has already delivered 24 stations to the city, including the two archeo-stations Porta Metronia and Colosseo/Fori Imperiali, which were inaugurated last December, and is currently continuing work on the Venezia station and the T2 section.
