Fashion giant Zalando has decided to phase out SCA from its supply chain following an external review of human rights, the company confirmed to Dagens Nyheter.
The decision comes after criticism from organizations including Skydda Skogen and Greenpeace during Copenhagen Fashion Week, where Zalando is a main sponsor, regarding links between the company's packaging materials and the logging of ecologically valuable forests.
According to DN, Zalando states that an external consultant has, over the past year, reviewed allegations of human rights violations and environmental destruction, after which the company decided to phase out SCA materials in its packaging.
Previously, the world's largest food company, Nestlé, also stopped purchasing virgin fiber from SCA, citing "controversies" in northern Sweden.
