Biotech firm Zealand Pharma has announced that its partner, Boehringer Ingelheim, presented detailed Phase 3 results for the obesity candidate survodutide at ADA 2026.

The SYNCHRONIZE-1 study demonstrated a reduction in visceral fat of up to 34 percent and a decrease in liver fat of up to 63.1 percent after 76 weeks, while limiting the loss of lean muscle mass.

The data presented by Boehringer Ingelheim today show that this novel mechanism of action achieves a targeted reduction in visceral and liver fat, reinforcing the potential for survodutide as a truly differentiated incretin-based treatment for individuals living with overweight or obesity and associated metabolic dysfunction,' said David Kendall, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Zealand Pharma.

Previously reported data showed an average weight loss of up to 16.6 percent compared to 3.2 percent for the placebo group. In the separate Phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD study, 61 percent of participants achieved normalized liver fat levels after 48 weeks of treatment. Zealand is entitled to royalties on global sales as well as potential milestone payments totaling 315 million euros.
