Brazil Current Account Deficit Narrowed in December to $5.9 Billion

SAO PAULO--Brazil recorded a current-account deficit of $5.9 billion in December, from a deficit of $6.5 billion in November, the country's central bank said Wednesday.

The 12-month current-account deficit reached $28.1 billion in December, from $30.8 billion the month before, the bank said.

The 12-month current-account deficit was equal to 1.75% of gross domestic product, versus 1.90% of GDP reported for the previous month.

Net foreign direct investment posted a $3.9 billion outflow in December, from an inflow of $4.6 billion in November, the bank said. FDI reached $46.4 billion for the 12 months through December, compared with $51.5 billion in the 12 months through November.
