Shares of power producers rose as traders rotated into the defensive sector ahead of a key jobs report.

Investors are counting on a tepid November payrolls report, which would support expectations for a December Federal Reserve rate cut. A strong report could have inflationary implications.

"In past months, airline fares have flown above past years' pricing patterns despite falling jet fuel prices, evidently reflecting strong consumer demand for air travel and constrained airline capacity," said economists at brokerage BNP Paribas.
