From futures on Wall Street indices, however, come signs of a retracement today after The Nasdaq yesterday crossed the 20,000-point threshold for the first time.
Today, meanwhile, is ECB day: the market is taking for granted a 25 basis point rate cut and indications of further easing. The eurozone economy is showing signs of strong weakness amidst the looming threat of tariffs from the United States. Investors do not expect particular news from Chairwoman Lagarde's press conference following the rate statement.
According to one trader, any indication other than those expected could backfire in the markets.
In Milan, around 12:30 p.m., the Ftse Mib rose 0.45 percent. Volumes of 930 million euros.
Stocks in focus today
Brunello Cucinelli stands out above the rest with a jump of more than 6 percent after an upward revision of its sales guidance for 2024 thanks to strong sales performance in recent months of between 11 percent and 12 percent, from a previous sales estimate of 10 percent. In light of this announcement, analysts are revising their estimates. Equita raised them by 1 percent as revenue and net income 2024, raising the target price on the stock to 105 euros.
Ferragamo and Moncler, initially bought this morning in the wake of Cucinelli's jump, have since reversed course and are moving lower.
On the banking front, big Intesa and UniCredit rise between 0.40-0.60 percent. Always tonic Banco Bpm, which rises 0.8% to new multi-year highs at 7.854 euros. Also doing well is Mps at +1.3% on highs since September 2022. Best of all, Bper with a 2.54% jump.
Cues on Pirelli, which advances 1.5% boosted by press rumors that Camfin is working on a maxi-refinancing to equip itself with the necessary ammunition to grow further in Pirelli's capital, in which it already holds 26.1%. Intesa Sanpaolo analysts regard "the potential increase in the share by Camfin as fully in line with what the group has already announced."
Amplifon up 1.5 percent. Equita increased its recommendation on the stock to "buy," with a target price confirmed at 32 euros. The broker sees "a re-acceleration of growth "in light also of the significant underperformance of the stock in the last two years (-34% compared to the Eurostoxx and -66% compared to the Ftse Mib)."
Outside the main basket Juve grows 2.5 percent after its Champions League win yesterday against Manchester City with the stock rising 2.9 percent.
In the oil sector Eni advances 0.3%, better Saipem with +0.75%.
