Jan 19 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened higher on Tuesday, helped by strength in energy stocks, while data showing growth in domestic wholesale trade in November further bolstered sentiment.

* At 9:32 a.m. ET (1432 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 47.39 points, or 0.26%, at 17,992.27.
