AB Volvo Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2021

AB Volvo publ announced consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2021. For the second quarter, the company announced sales was SEK 90,561 million compared to SEK 73,227 million a year ago. Operating income was SEK 11,384 million compared to SEK 388 million a year ago. Income for the period was SEK 9,064 million compared to SEK 44 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share was SEK 4.38 compared to basic loss per share of SEK 0.14 a year ago.
For the half year, sales was SEK 184,579 million compared to SEK 164,676 million a year ago. Operating income was SEK 23,451 million compared to SEK 7,762 million a year ago. Income for the period was SEK 18,068 million compared to SEK 4,810 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share was SEK 8.72 compared to SEK 2.16 a year ago.
AB Volvo is the leading European truck maker and No. 3 worldwide. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- sales of trucks (66.3%): 246,272 vehicles sold in 2023 (names Volvo, Renault, Eicher and Mack);
- sales of construction equipment (18.7%): excavators, loaders, backhoes, hydraulic shovels, graders, dump trucks, etc.;
- financial services (4.3%);
- bus and chassis sales (4%): world's No. 2 largest manufacturer;
- sales of parts, control systems, and marine and industrial motors (3.7%): for commerce and cruise ships and for industrial applications (irrigation units, lifting trucks, electrical generators, etc.);
- other (3%).
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: Europe (42.8%), North America (29.8%), Asia (12%), South America (8.9%), Africa and Oceania (6.5%).
