Preliminary orders for heavy-duty trucks (class 8) in North America stood at 7,600 units in April. This represents a 52 percent year-on-year decline and is also lower than the previous month. This is according to recent statistics from ACT Research.

Volvo and Traton are among the companies selling heavy trucks in the North American market.

According to Kepler Cheuvreux, the April figures indicate that orders, measured on a rolling three-month basis, fell by 32 percent year-on-year. Order intake over the past 12 months amounted to 276,500 trucks.

"Overall, according to ACT, April orders were slightly weaker than expected. Political unrest and the trade war are having a major impact on investment sentiment. The potential delay or removal of the EPA27 emissions regulation is also likely to affect potential pre-purchases. Order intake is largely in line with the revised NAFTA guidance and comments from sector companies' latest Q4 reports," the bank writes.
