ABB Ltd. said Tuesday that it is investing around 40 million Swiss francs ($43.7 million) to upgrade its site in Turgi, Switzerland.

The Swiss engineering company said the construction of new research and development facilities as well as office space for its motion and industrial automation businesses will begin in spring 2021.

"This investment is the most significant we have made in Switzerland over the past decade and will strengthen ABB's global center of excellence for power electronics from R&D all the way to production," said Robert Itschner, country managing director for ABB Switzerland, in a statement.

The company currently has around 1,100 employees for the motion and industrial automation segments at its location in Turgi.
