AbbVie Inc. on Thursday said Carlos Alban plans to retire as vice chairman and chief commercial officer at the end of the first quarter 2021.

The North Chicago, Ill., biopharmaceutical company said Jeffrey Stewart, currently senior vice president of U.S. commercial operations, will succeed Mr. Alban as executive vice president of commercial operations.

Mr. Alban, who was named vice chairman in late 2018, previously served as executive vice president of commercial operations and served as served as senior vice president of proprietary pharmaceutical products, global commercial operations, prior to AbbVie's separation from Abbott Laboratories.
