ABN AMRO

Environmental and Energy Policy Statement

With our purpose 'Banking for better, for generations to come', ABN AMRO is committed to sustainability. As a bank, we want to make a contribution both with our core business and with our own operations, for our clients and other stakeholders. Our environmental policy is focused on sustainability and transparency. We are committed to act in an environmentally conscious manner, to prevent or reduce our environmental impact as much as reasonably possible and to make care for the environment an integral part of our business operations and business strategy.

The principles of this environmental policy statement are translated annually into environmental policy plans. These plans contain objectives and targets in the environmental field which go beyond what is strictly prescribed in legislation and regulations. This demonstrates our ambition to further develop our sustainable business operation, a responsibility that we advance together with our suppliers.

Working together with suppliers on sustainability

We require our suppliers and service providers to contribute to reducing our environmental impact. To this end, we share this environmental policy statement and our key sustainability objectives with them. With this knowledge, we invite them to think proactively and continuously with us about how we can reduce the environmental impact of our business operations.

Working together with every employee of ABN AMRO on sustainability

The environmental and energy management system is one of the ways in which ABN AMRO shows its commitment to environmental responsibility. Final responsibility for the environmental policy rests with the Executive Board. Implementation is the responsibility of each individual employee. ABN AMRO expects all its employees, both internal and external, to play an active role in limiting ABN AMRO's impact on the environment.

Scope

The scope of the Environmental and Energy Policy covers the entire business operations in the Netherlands: the provision of Facility Services (including renovations) and IT Services for the ABN AMRO locations and services relating to mobility and travel for its own staff.

Governance

ABN AMRO has translated its Environmental and Energy Policy into the following governance model. Within ABN AMRO, the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Chief Innovation & Technology Officer have overall responsibility for

implementing ABN AMRO's Environmental and Energy Policy within the established environmental and energy management system. The annual signing of the policy shows a direct involvement of the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Chief Innovation & Technology Officer. In alignment with the Sustainability Centre of Excellence, they provide budget, capacity and resources for the implementation of objectives in the environmental and energy policy.

The Chief Human Resources Officer has delegated the responsibility for the provision of sustainable Facility Management services (including renovations) to the Workplace Management MT and the responsibility for sustainable Mobility Services to the HR Recognition MT. The Chief Innovation & Technology Officer has delegated the responsibility for sustainable Business Travel to the Procurement MT and the responsibility for sustainable IT-related services to the Platforms & Technology MT. The Lead by Example team is responsible for engaging the above departments to further develop a sustainable business operation and monitoring the progress towards the bankwide sustainability goals.

These teams are represented in the CO2 Sync meetings (bankwide) and the Environmental and Energy Team meeting (Workplace Management and its suppliers). In these two consultations, the executive teams are held accountable on the implementation and progress of the environmental and energy goals and make proposals for improvements.

Ambitions

We focus our sustainability ambitions on three main themes. Regarding these main themes, we have formulated a challenging long-term ambition that we want to work towards together with our suppliers. These ambitions contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

In addition, we are pursuing the following objectives for the purpose of securing and continuously improving our environmental policy:

  1. Reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption;
  2. Sustainable use of natural resources and raw materials and reducing our use and/or recovering its residual value;
  3. Providing a healthy work environment for ABN AMRO employees;
  4. Prevent any negative effects on the environment and biodiversity and restore natural habitats when carrying out our activities;
  5. Informing and encouraging employees about the environmental policy, its objectives and the rationale behind it. To this end, ABN AMRO will ensure that its employees are well trained and knowledgeable so that they can perform their duties in an environmentally responsible manner;
  6. Compliance with all relevant statutory provisions, associated rules and extra-legal agreements;
  7. Maintaining and continuously improving an effective environmental and energy management system that is appropriate to current operations;
  8. Periodically review the implementation of its environmental and energy policy, with a minimum frequency of once per year;
  9. Report the assessment of the environmental and energy policy in general terms in the annual report, including setting targets for the coming years.
    The environmental policy focuses on all activities of the ABN AMRO organisation. We will periodically assess our activities for their potential environmental impact in order to keep our processes up to date or to expand with new processes.
