With two exhibitions and a historic video presentation, ABN AMRO is today opening its new Art Space in the lobby of its head office on Gustav Mahlerlaan in Amsterdam. The art space is open to the general public.

ABN AMRO's art collection has been forty years in the making. The selection consists mainly of post-war visual arts created in the Netherlands. The new ABN AMRO Art Space and the varying exhibitions to be held there serve to share the bank's collection with the world, provide a platform for new developments in the art world, and offer artists a place to present their works. Recent acquisitions made by young talent are presented side by side with the collection's masterpieces. All in all, a wondrous peek into one of the oldest and largest corporate art collections in the Netherlands.

Eleven Women, and More…

The Art Space is opening on 6 October with two exhibitions and a Wall of Fame. Eleven Women, and More features some of ABN AMRO's most beautiful artworks, chosen by eleven female employees at the bank. Selecting the works inspired these women to share their own experiences in a booklet created especially for this exhibition.

The well-known Dutch photographer Dana Lixenberg also shot portraits of the eleven women on the top floor of the bank's head office, where the Managing Board - mainly men - once had its offices. In this special series, Lixenberg presents an intimate portrait of these women. The photos can be viewed as part of the exhibition.

Power of Art and Wall of History

In addition to Eleven Women, and More…, there are two other exhibitions in the new Art Space: The Power of Art and the ABN AMRO Wall of History. The Power of Art shows how art stops time in its tracks so we can reflect on the world we live in. The works address issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic and sustainability.

From today, the ABN AMRO Wall of History will be displayed at the coffee corner in the lobby of the Gustav Mahlerlaan building. The Wall of History is a video presentation of the bank's social impact on society over the years. The videos highlight current social issues such as diversity, customer experience and the role of banks in society, placing these themes in a historical framework.
