While our employees are still working from home, one family is present at our Gustav Mahlerlaan office day and night… The peregrine falcons are back and they have two new family members. The chicks will be fitted with leg rings today by the Netherlands Society for the Protection of Birds.

The peregrine falcons were first spotted in 2013 on the 21st floor of the office at Gustav Mahlerlaan. Since then they have been coming back every year. It is the perfect place for these great hunters to escape the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam's Zuidas business district. This year they laid four eggs in the nest at the office, the first of which was laid on March 19. The eggs usually hatch after one month. Two of the four eggs have hatched, so we can now enjoy watching the chicks again via the webcams.

Returning regulars

Since 2013, thirteen females and eleven males have grown up and taken wing from the nesting box on the roof of the bank's head office. We can track this because the peregrine falcons are ringed by the Netherlands Society for the Protection of Birds. They are expected to leave the nest at the end of May. And we would be delighted to welcome them back again next year!
