ABN AMRO and Rotterdam Ahoy have renewed the sponsorship contract for the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament (WTT) and the ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tournament (WWTT) for another three editions. This means the bank will remain the title sponsor of both tournaments in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

This year, the tournament will be seeing its 49th edition, to be held from 5 to 13 February 2022. The event enjoys ATP 500 status, making it one of the 25 most important tennis tournaments worldwide. This year's line-up will include three top-5 players: Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.

In 2009, ABN AMRO took the initiative to expand the event with a fully-fledged tennis tournament for wheelchair players. The wheelchair tournament, or WWTT, is going into its fourteenth edition this year. In the current media campaign, the spotlight is focused on both tournaments. After all, equal ambition deserves equal coverage.

Involved from the start

Sander Bestevaar, ABN AMRO's Head of Sponsoring & Events, is excited about the renewal of the contract. "We've been involved from the very start, which makes us unique on the tour. It's great to know we'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the WTT and the 15th of the WWTT next year, and continuing beyond that. This is our largest sponsorship and our most important networking event. Moreover, it increases our impact by providing a powerful platform, where we can promote equal opportunities for wheelchair tennis and demonstrate our commitment to sustainability."

Richard Krajicek, director of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, welcomes this news. "This is good news for sports in general, and for tennis in particular. In the past almost 50 years, the WTT has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that sports and business have a lot to offer each other, especially in the long term."

Wheelchair tournament

The ABN AMRO World Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, which has been played in tandem with the WTT in Rotterdam Ahoy for fourteen years now, will also see further editions up to and including 2025.

Esther Vergeer is director of this tournament. She believes that the combination of both tournaments contributes in a big way to the further growth of wheelchair tennis in the Netherlands. "It offers fans the opportunity to get to know the sport and continue following it. It's wonderful that ABN AMRO has not only taken the initiative to organise the tournament, but is also prepared to keep supporting it over the years."
