ABOITIZ EQUITY VENTURES, INC. In line with its mission of building a better future and in partnership with Lipa CityCommunity Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), AboitizConstructionspearheaded the 'Scrap to Crop and WasteManagement' program for the local government unit (LGU) officials of Brgy. Simlong and Pinamucan Ibaba, BatangasCity.
Under this program, AboitizConstructionsells scrap materials from its project sites to raise funds for its wastemanagementinitiatives, including planting seedlings that will eventually be a food resource for the communities.
To support its current wastemanagementefforts, AboitizConstructionhas donated material recovery facilities that include large wastesegregation bins to the barangay beneficiaries this month. With CENRO's aid, the company also provided non-fruit bearing seedlings like Narra in order to aid against flooding.
'We want to support the communities in towns and barangays where AboitizConstructionprojects are located. Team members are able to participate in this community partnership. The wastemanagementprogram fulfills our promise of advancing business and communities in the Philippines.' said Nina Ylagan-Pedro, Division Chief for Enterprise Risk, Corporate Affairs and Services of AboitizConstruction.
Observing safety and health protocols, 16 participants composed of barangay officials and health workers attended the capacity building activity on wastemanagementthat was facilitated by the Lipa CityCENRO last July.
Hanna Mari Flores, CENRO Assistant Planning Officer, discussed the provisions of the Ecological Solid WasteManagementAct of 2000 and the methods on how to effectively manage the wastes in the communities. Additionally, Bea Liza Ladito, CENRO Forest Technician I, led the discussion on tree planting, composting, and vertical gardening
Hon. Wenilda Macaraig, Barangay Captain of Simlong, directly consulted with the staff of Lipa CityCommunity Environment and Natural Resources Office about the things that they need to improve in terms of their wastemanagementprograms in the barangay.'The program helped us to refresh our memory about the things that we need to understand about wastemanagement. Through this, we will be able to create sustainable programs for the welfare of our community members,' said Simlong Barangay Captain Wenilda Macaraig.
