ADIB wins first ever Global Islamic Business Award from Dubai's Department of Economic Development

ABU DHABI, 07 May 2017: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a leading financial institution, has received the inaugural Global Islamic Business Award, part of the Business Excellence Awards, from the Global Islamic Business Excellence Centre (GIBEC), a new institution, formed by the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai that aims to foster a thriving Islamic business ecosystem in the emirate. The award was presented to ADIB's Chairman H.H. Jawaan Awaidha Suhail Al Khaili by Deputy Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Global Islamic Business Award has been created to reward Sharia-compliant organisations that demonstrate best-practice, leadership and excellence amongst their peer group. ADIB was recognised for its commitment to combining Islamic banking principles and offering an exceptional customers' experience. This approach has helped ADIB increase customer numbers by nearly 42,000 customers in the last 12 months to total 938,000.

On receiving the award, H.H. Jawaan Awaidha Suhail Al Khaili, Chairman of ADIB, commented, 'It is an honour to receive the first Global Islamic Business Award on behalf of the entire team at ADIB. A core focus for the bank is to demonstrate that our efficient, trusted and customer-centric bank offering is for everyone. There is a huge opportunity for banks such as ADIB to present tailored, Sharia-compliant banking solutions to meet this growing demand. We have had a strong start to 2017 and will continue to launch new products and services which can further enhance our customers' banking experience.'

Over the past year, ADIB has heavily focused on innovation, introducing several new technologies that enable customers to conduct their banking transactions in a flexible, convenient and secure way. In addition to its voice activated and biometric ATMs, and industry leading mobile app, ADIB recently launched ADIB Express, a first of its kind class of digitally-enabled branch that combines the benefits of digital banking with a bespoke personalised service.

Over 90 percent of the bank's transactions are now conducted via digital channels, while active users of the mobile banking app have increased 50% in the last year alone to over with over 1 million transactions per month.

ADIB has received other prestigious awards in recent months, including a Gold Category of the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, 'Best Overall Bank in Customer Experience in the UAE' by Ethos consultancy for the sixth year, 'Best Islamic Bank in the Middle East' at the EMEA Finance Middle East Banking Awards 2016, and 'Best Premium Banking Service in the UAE' from Banker Middle East.
