Accenture announced on Tuesday that it is to extend its partnership with SAP to help companies consolidate their supply chain.

The technology group explains that the project aims to establish a "nerve center" to reduce the risk of shortages and improve visibility at purchasing level, while enabling clients to achieve their sustainability objectives.

This will include a stress test designed with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to identify potential points of failure, assess the associated financial risks, and define appropriate strategies and responses.

At the same time, Accenture and SAP plan to jointly develop new functionalities for SAP Integrated Business Planning for Supply Chain (SAP IBP), SAP's cloud-based sales, delivery and industrial planning software suite.
