ACCIONA to build Lima new airport's control tower in Peru 05/29/2020
  • The new infrastructure will be operational in 2022

Peru's airport sector operator LAP (Lima Airport Partners) has awarded the construction of the Control Tower at Jorge Chávez Airport (Lima, Peru) to a consortium including ACCIONA, Ferrovial and Peru-based JJC.

The project is part of the Peruvian capital's airport expansion scheme. Once completed, the Jorge Chávez Airport will become one of the largest and most modern airports in South America.

The 65-meter-high tower, made of reinforced concrete and steel pillars, will be operational in 2022.

The project will cover a total area of 3,100m2, which includes the new tower itself (1,600m2) and another 1,500m2 of auxiliary buildings that will house operational facilities. These include a Regulation and Transformation Centre, a fire extinguishing building, a wildlife control building, an electrical substation, and external water supply and sanitation networks.

The contract encompasses all the civil and electromechanical works required for the tower's development and its auxiliary installations, as well as all the building's systems, services and facilities, excluding specialized communications, navigation and surveillance systems for air traffic management.

Water, construction and social contribution

ACCIONA has extended experience in Peru's infrastructure market, in which the group first began operating in 1998.

The company has developed prominent projects in the Peruvian water sector, such as the Talara desalination plant, the wastewater treatment plant in La Chira and also the wastewater treatment plant in Arequipa. ACCIONA also carries out water management services in Lima for state-owned firm Sedapal.

Important construction works have also been developed by the company in Peru, including the Daniel Alcides Carrión hospital and the Pucallpa prison.

In addition, ACCIONA has been present in Peru's mining sector since the beginning of 2019, after having built a pumping system for the Antamina project's concentrator plant, located in the Huari province in the Ancash region.

In 2009, ACCIONA launched its Luz en Casa program in Peru, which today offers basic electricity services to more than 18,000 inhabitants of rural and isolated communities in the country. This initiative is carried out through the group's corporate foundation acciona.org.
