Activision Blizzard Inc.-owned mobile game developer King said it is buying artificial intelligence software company Peltarion.

The deal will accelerate the use of AI and machine-learning technology in King's game platform, which the company said is a key area of strategic direction. King is the developer behind the Candy Crush franchise and other mobile games.

"The scale and reach of King, with iconic franchises like Candy Crush Saga, is a great match for our technology," Peltarion Chief Executive Luka Crnkovic-Friis said. "The opportunities with AI seem to be endless, and we cannot wait to unlock the potential of working together."

The companies didn't disclose the financial terms of the deal, which comes as Activision waits for its deal to be bought by Microsoft Corp. for some $75 billion to close.
