Admiral : One Million Press Ups for Tŷ Hafan

Keeping active in lockdown may seem daunting and most of us would rather put on our loungewear and relax on the sofa, but this isn't the case for some of Admiral's employees. Over the next couple of months, over 100 colleagues from across the company have pledged to complete one million press ups in a bid to keep active and to help raise funds for Tŷ Hafan's fit for the future refurbishment appeal.

Staff member, Jonathan Evans, who lives in Cardiff, came up with the idea to complete one million press ups after attending an awards ceremony celebrating those who had raised funds for charities. Having two children of his own, he was inspired to raise funds for Tŷ Hafan.

Jon explained that he had the idea to do '10,000 press ups as a personal challenge' then realised that it would be a great opportunity to 'bring people together, of different fitness levels and abilities to do something for a worthy cause'. Before Jonathan knew it, '10,000 became 100,000 then that became one million press ups!'

Jon, who works in Admiral's Risk department, realised that although 10,000 press ups would have been a challenge, one million press ups was near impossible for one person alone. 'After doing some sums, I worked out that realistically to achieve this we would need at least 100 people pledging between 1,000-100,000 press ups each for us to achieve the goal' Jon said.

Before Jon knew it, he had over 100 participants from across the country wanting to take part in the challenge.

Jon explained that 'the fact the challenge is virtual helped hugely with the recruitment'. He has seen support from colleagues not only in south Wales but also from Admiral's overseas operations as well.

So far, Jon and his colleagues have got a total of 1,089,000 press ups pledged and he even managed to do 30 press ups waiting for the kettle to boil recently!

The fundraising target set by Jon and his colleagues is £10,000 which will support Tŷ Hafan families across Wales and help make a hospice fit for the future.
