--Adobe Inc.'s deal to buy collaboration-software company Figma for around $20 billion was spearheaded by David Wadhwani, president of Adobe's digital-media business, and not Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen, CNBC reported, citing people familiar with the transaction.

--Mr. Wadhwani is in the driver's seat to become the next CEO, bolstered by the Figma deal, the report said.

--Mr. Wadhwani and Anil Chakravarthy, the head of Adobe's marketing software business, are both strong contenders but Mr. Narayen isn't leaving anytime soon, CNBC reported, citing sources close to the company.

--Adobe didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Dow Jones Newswires.
