BOCA RATON, Fla., Oct. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ADT Inc. (NYSE: ADT), the leading provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, celebrated one of its LifeSaver events today in Clackamas County, Oregon where ADT customer Lisa Macias and her two dogs escaped a fire.

“I opened the laundry room door and saw towels on fire with sparks shooting from the ceiling,” said Macias. “I shooed the dogs out the door and emptied a fire extinguisher on the flames. Thankfully, there weren’t any injuries or serious damage.”

An ADT-monitored smoke detector alerted Macias to the fire and signaled ADT’s Customer Care Centers where professionally-trained dispatchers followed up by phoning Macias, her husband and the fire department.

“It was a relief knowing ADT had our backs,” said Macias. “Without the alarm, I likely wouldn’t have known there was a fire until it was too late.”

As part of today’s LifeSaver celebration, ADT partnered with Clackamas firefighters to share a dramatic demonstration of how rapidly fire can spread in a house. Using a specially-designed display, firefighters started a blaze in identical rooms; one without fire protection and the other equipped with sprinklers and smoke detectors.

“We thought this would be a powerful message as part of National Fire Safety Month to show how smoke and fire, left undetected, can quickly build in a house, causing death and destruction,” said Brandon Paxton, Public Information Officer of Clackamas Fire.

ADT awarded $5,000 to the Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation which will use the funds to purchase smoke detectors for families in need.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, there have been at least 1,823 fire fatalities in 2018.
