Quantum key distribution (QKD) uses the laws of physics to establish secret keys between remote parties. But, as QKD protocols may differ for each link and each QKD key may be produced independently by a separate vendor, a key management system is needed that can interact with different QKD systems. This must be able to retrieve QKD keys in a standardized form and relay them over the QKD network. To support the interoperability of multi-vendor QKD systems, ADVA has introduced key management based on its FSP 150 packet edge devices. This manages the interaction among QKD systems, encryptors and trusted nodes via the ETSI standard key delivery interface.

In this demo, Joo Cho and Piotr Rydlichowski will showcase a key relay mechanism using multiple trusted nodes. Using a long-distance QKD link in one of the OpenQKD testbeds, it will perform high-speed quantum-secure optical communication over the GÉANT NREN network. Based on a standard model, the scheme can be easily integrated into existing telecommunication networks.
