AEGEAN welcomed its brand new A321neo, the fourth of the larger version of the Airbus A320neo family out of total 46 aircraft under the existing agreement, at Airbus Hamburg, Germany.

At the same time, AEGEAN made its first delivery flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), as the new aircraft flew to Greece using a blend of sustainable and conventional aviation fuels. By achieving this milestone, AEGEAN takes a significant step towards sustainable aviation.
Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN's CEO stated: 'Although we are still working our way through a major pandemic crisis, we retain our focus on the new era for AEGEAN as well as sustainable air transport, while continuing our efforts with the fleet renewal plan as well as the use of innovation. Today's first delivery flight with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a significant symbolic milestone for AEGEAN and an important step towards sustainability in Greece'.

It should be noted that AEGEAN has consistently continued deliveries of new aircraft since early 2020 under the existing delivery plan for 46 new Airbus A320neo aircraft. This commitment is not only a large investment, the largest in terms of fleet in Greece, but also a significant step toward lowering the impact on the environment. The new aircraft, even with the use of conventional fuels have a 19% - 23% lower CO2 footprint per seat compared to the previous generation aircraft and up to 53% lower CO2 footprint per seat compared to the aircraft operated by the airline 20 years ago.

The positive environmental footprint of an A321neo, at a glance
  • 53% less CO2 emissions per passenger seat Vs the AEGEAN's fleet in 1999
  • 23% less CO2 emissions per passenger seat Vs previous generation AIRBUS
  • 50% lower NOx emissions levels
  • 75% lower noise footprint
  • 16% less fuel consumption
  • + up to 1 additional hour of flight, up to 4.600 km

Engine: The new aircraft, is equipped with the advanced Pratt & Whitney GTF™ new generation engines that contribute to a substantial reduction of CO2 and NOx emission levels, while also lower the noise footprint up to 75%.
Flight range: The reduced fuel consumption enhances AEGEAN's competitiveness and extends its flight range, enabling the airline to fly to new destinations.

Cabin: With improved passenger space in the cabin, the new aircraft combine ergonomics, extra comfort, and modern aesthetics. They are also equipped with reusable or fully recycled service kits.
