BOLOGNA AIRPORT: STRONG PASSENGER TRAFFIC GROWTH IN NOVEMBER

Over 7.8 million passengers in the first 11 months (+3.5%)

Bologna Airport hit one more record in November: passenger traffic delivered a sound increase of 14.9% on the same month in 2017, for a total of 669,298 passengers. In detail, international passengers were 511,787 and domestic passengers were 157,511. Flight movements recorded a strong rise, too (5,454, +11.1%) and 3,668 tons of air cargo were transported (+2.5%).

November's excellent performance was mainly driven by new flights being launched in the winter season and a number of additional frequencies continued after their start in summer. A focus on winter news: the fifth daily frequency to Frankfurt operated by Lufthansa, the start of Lauda Motion operating to Vienna and new connections to London Luton, Amman and Kaunas by Ryanair. Among summer additional flights confirmed for the winter season two are especially performing: the second daily frequency to Catania operated by Alitalia and the third weekly frequency to Athens by Aegean.

November's three most popular destinations were: Catania, Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle followed by Madrid, Rome Fiumicino, Barcelona, Palermo, London Heathrow, London Stansted and Amsterdam. The most significant increase was recorded by Barcelona (+25.8%), followed by Catania (+21.3%) and Amsterdam (+12.7%).

From January to November 2018, 7,852,818 passengers travelled through Bologna Airport with a growth of 3.5% on 2017. Flight movements were 62,230 (+0.1% on previous year). Total air freight decreased by 3.1%, with 37,262 tons.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is now the eighth biggest Italian airport by passenger numbers, with more than 8.2 million passengers in 2017, of which 76% on international flights (Source: Assaeroporti). In 2017 106 destinations were served from Bologna: the presence at the airport of some of the largest airlines in Europe along with some of the leading low-cost carriers and the close link with International hubs make Bologna Italy's fourth airport for global connectivity (Source: ICCSAI - Fact Book 2017) and the first in Europe in terms of growth of connectivity in the decade from 2004 to 2014 (Source: ACI Europe Airport Connectivity Report 2004-2014).

As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
