The story of Zimbabwe tourism can never be complete without mention of African Sun Limited (ASL).

ASL is a leading hotel operations company in Zimbabwe, boasting a cocktail of internationally recognised brands.

The group currently has four divisions which are: City and Country Hotels, Resort Hotels, The Victoria Falls Hotel Partnership with Meikles Hospitality (Private) Limited and Sun Leisure division which includes Sun Leisure Tours and two casinos located in Harare and Victoria Falls.

The company's hotels are located in all major cities and prime tourist destinations. ASL has presence in four out of the five major cities in the country.

Its portfolio includes The Victoria Falls Hotel, Elephant Hills Resort and Conference Centre, The Kingdom at Victoria Falls, Caribbea Bay Resort, Great Zimbabwe Hotel, Hwange Safari Lodge, Holiday Inn Harare, Holiday Inn Bulawayo, Holiday Inn Mutare, Troutbeck Resort, Monomotapa Hotel, Sun Casinos (Harare Sun Casino & Makasa Sun Casino) and Sun Leisure Tours.

"To diversify our product offering and meet the dynamic needs of our various customers, the group introduced a ground handling unit (Sun Leisure Tours) to safely get you to your preferred destination as well as a camping option within hotel grounds at Caribbea Bay Resort and Great Zimbabwe Hotel. Packages include experiential travellers' clean and comfortable accommodation with access to all hotel amenities including Wi-Fi and activities at affordable rates," said the group sales manager Mr Maxwell Moyo.

To play a significant and visible role in the tourism sector besides offering accommodation and transfer facilities, ASL is currently running an exciting "Rediscover Zimbabwe" campaign in line with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority's ZimBho campaign.

Africa Sun Limited is cognisant of the importance of tourism to the country and the whole world and rightfully joins the whole world in celebrating World Tourism Day today, September 27.

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu recently launched tourism month festivities in style with a press conference in the Rainforest, with emphasis on the need for tourism players to embrace inclusivity towards business revival.

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually and the month of September is tourism month, under the auspices of the World Tourism Organisation.

The national tourism day celebrations will be held at Paradise Pools Resort, Bindura, Mashonaland Central province under the theme: "Tourism for inclusive growth."

On offer in this campaign are highly discounted rates applicable to the domestic market encouraging all Zimbabweans to travel, experience, explore and enjoy.

"We have the perfect home away from home in each of the prime destinations to ensure you enjoy the best in hospitality as you rediscover Zimbabwe," said Mr Moyo.

The leading hotelier has joined a number of other players to support sports tourism in the country and was one of the sponsors for an inaugural event that happened in Victoria Falls over the weekend.

The Victoria Falls Sports Tourism Festival comprised golf, tennis, mountain biking and marathon.

This is the first of its kind and contributed immensely to the domestic tourism boost.

Hotels recorded significant bookings especially coming from a busy week where most were fully booked as the city hosted back-to-back conferences.

ASL's participation at the inaugural event rubber stamps the need for promotion of sports tourism and making Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls a destination of choice for domestic and international travellers.

Sports Tourism Incorporation organised the inaugural event in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and ZimParks and this has been one of the major events promoting the ZimBho #iZim Yami and #Vakatsha campaigns.

The only golf course in Victoria Falls, with 18 holes, is at one of ASL-Elephant Hills properties and has hosted locally, regional and international events.

The multiple wonders offered in the beautiful country range from the scenic Eastern Highlands, the tranquil Kariba Dam waters to the alluring Great Zimbabwe Monuments and Majestic Victoria Falls.

To ASL, the health and safety of guests, employees and their families and the nation at large is a priority.

The group has incorporated the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health and Child Care recommended safety guidelines in its operations which include but are not limited to strict hygiene conformity processes, vigilant temperature checks, compulsory mask wearing in public areas and increased implementation of contactless check in, check out and payment processes.

Even without physically visiting any of the portfolios, clients can catch with ASL packages on online packages. There are promotions such as Festive Season packages, Golfing Packages, Destination Wedding packages, Home Office packages, Corporate and Social group retreat packages, all aimed at giving clients a rare treat.
