ÅF Pöyry : AFRY acquires Numerola Oy in Finland - a leading provider of digital solutions in wind power

The acquisition strengthens AFRY's position in digital solutions for clean energy.

AFRY acquires Numerola Oy, a leading Finland-based provider of simulation services within wind power. The company provides digital wind condition modelling and analyses for all phases of the planning and development of wind power projects, for power grid storm damage control as well as for urban planning. Numerola also serves the industrial sector in their modelling and simulation needs. Through the acquisition, AFRY will be able to provide clients with extensive wind power services and the most advanced technologies in the market for demanding wind power projects.

The demand for carbon-free energy is increasing and AFRY's ambition is to be a leader in the transition towards cleaner energy. The acquisition of Numerola is in line with this ambition and will further strengthen AFRY's global position in clean energy and digitalisation.

Numerola is an expert in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based on the physics of air flows. The company produces information on the production potential of planned wind power projects and their environmental impacts. Wind power modelling and analyses are also utilised in power grid planning and maintenance resource allocation. In urban planning, Numerola's wind analyses and models can be used to determine wind conditions and their effects on the safety, comfort and life cycle of buildings. In industry, the company's modelling expertise enables testing and product development of machines and production processes.

Numerola employs 10 people and the net sales in 2020 were SEK 12 million. The company will be consolidated into AFRY from June 2021.
