LONDON, 7 December, 2021 --Clearpay, a leader in "Buy Now, Pay Later" payments known as Afterpay (ASX:APT) outside the UK and Europe, today released its consumer shopping trends following this year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. At a time when we are longing for festive get-togethers, Clearpay saw a 250% year-on-yearincrease of orders in the travel and events category on Cyber Monday, showing that Brits are investing in social gatherings, reacquainting with loved ones and making memories this festive season.

While the travel and events category was the overall winner on Cyber Monday, Black Friday belonged to homeware, beauty and fashion, with year-on-yearorders rising by 170%, 61% and 35% respectively, indicating the nation will glam up both inside and out - whether hosting at-home gatherings or hitting the town following last year's hiatus.

Shoppers embraced street style with passion with top purchases that included customised sneakers, fashion leggings and statement bags. In the beauty category, items such as brush sets, foundations, hair serums and lipsticks few off the seasonal shelves, with Brits turning to glamour in planning for their festive get-togethers.Bold styles also proved popular as shown in Clearpay's bi-annualTrend Report1 which indicated a return of Y2K fashion such as cargo pants, halter tops, skorts and bodycon.

The data resoundingly shows Brits are shopping to maximise on their seasonal celebrations, and are using tools like Clearpay to effectively manage their fnances too.

How are consumers shopping?

Clearpay's shopping data uncovered interesting generational insights and shopping preferences:

  • BNPL is no longer the reserve of Gen Z and millennial consumers. Clearpay's Gen
    X'ers (41-56 year olds) made up 13% more of the customer base on Black Friday compared to last year;
  • The share of Clearpay's Millennial customer base rose 9% year-on-year on Cyber Monday. The rise in travel and events purchases on this day suggests Millennials favour experiential purchases and want to give 'memory making' gifts this Christmas;

  • Clearpay customers prefer to shop from mobile devices, with 92% of consumers using their phones to shop the deals.

Are toys still topping our Christmas lists?

Those buying gifts for children took advantage of Black Friday offers, suggesting that family members are keen to budget, get organised and make this year's celebrations extra special for younger family members. Purchases of products in the kids category increased by 53% compared with last year, with fun new stationery and school bundles among the best-selling products. Clearpay's recent consumer survey on Christmas shopping2 also echoed that toys were at the forefront for consumers this festive shopping season, with the product category ranking third in popularity, after tech and food & drinks.
