SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) on Monday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $442 million.

The Santa Clara, California-based company said it had net income of $1.45 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $1.21 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.17 per share.

The scientific instrument maker posted revenue of $1.66 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.65 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.21 billion, or $3.94 per share. Revenue was reported as $6.32 billion.

For the current quarter ending in February, Agilent expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.16 to $1.18. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.12.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.64 billion to $1.66 billion for the fiscal first quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $1.66 billion.

Agilent expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.76 to $4.86 per share, with revenue ranging from $6.65 billion to $6.73 billion.

Agilent shares have climbed 37% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased 25%. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $162.78, a climb of 47% in the last 12 months.
