Agnico Eagle recognized for its regional and economic development.

The mining industry plays a pivotal role in our global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only do we mine metals and materials that are essential to the healthy functioning of society, our sites are often the main employer and economic engine of our operating communities.

In the Abitibi region of Quebec, for example, Agnico Eagle is the largest private employer with more than 4,000 employees and contractors - more than a third of industry jobs in Abitibi. Each year, more than $250 million in wages and benefits are fed back into the regional economy by our workers, and more than $700 million worth of goods and services are purchased from over 600 businesses in the region.

On September 28th, our contributions to Abitibi's prosperity and development were recognized by the Federation of Quebec Chambers of Commerce (FCCQ) at the 40th Mercuriades Award gala where Agnico Eagle received the award for Contribution to Economic and Regional Development. The Mercuriades are a prestigious business competition that annually celebrates innovation, entrepreneurial excellence and strong business performance across the province.

Agnico Eagle's President Ammar Al-Joundi commented that this award is not only a recognition of 'what we do, but how we do it. We run a great business, and we do it in a way that provides maximum contribution to our people, our shareholders, and our communities.'

He added that Agnico Eagle's impact goes far beyond creating jobs or buying locally. Through the company's partnerships with local suppliers, educational institutions and research centers, Agnico Eagle fuels hubs of mining expertise and technical innovation that extend far beyond our operations to the global mining industry.

Dominique Girard, Agnico Eagle's Senior Vice President, Operations - Canada and Europe, added, 'This provincial recognition is well-aligned with our regional development strategy and demonstrates the importance of building trusting relationships with our employees and partners. Receiving this award shows how Agnico Eagle and the mining industry can continue to be an important lever for regional development.'

The Mercuriades Award also aligns with Agnico Eagle's culture, core values and commitment to sustainable development. Agnico Eagle will remain a sustaining force in our host communities by maintaining long-term jobs, helping local businesses to thrive and regional economies to grow, while improving the quality of life for all.
