AHLSTROM-MUNKSJÖ OYJ - As part of its continued focus on global sustainability leadership and from Plastic to Purpose' campaign, Ahlstrom-Munksjö has released its innovative process aid for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Copper Clad Laminates (CCL) laminating systems.

OptiLayup(TM) PCB and CCL lamination aid boast sustainable features, while offering a cost-effective alternative and added technical-value compared to the plastic films traditionally used to protect the press tools, ensuring process performance in these markets.

"Our 'from Plastic to Purpose' campaign aims at raising awareness around the world regarding the possibility of fiber-based solutions as a renewable option," said Robyn Buss, Executive Vice President of Ahlstrom-Munksjö's Food Packaging & Technical Solutions business area. "Many industries are demanding more sustainable solutions that reduce their impact on the environment and also have a positive end-of-life story - anywhere from compostability and biodegradation to recyclability. By educating the marketplace on the possibilities related to 'from Plastic to Purpose' we are encouraging industry stakeholders globally to consider fiber and paper-based alternatives where plastic and non-renewable materials are used today."

Before today, there were few alternatives on the PCB and CCL lamination market and none offering a sustainable option. In addition, standard plastic films become brittle and difficult to manipulate at temperatures above 200°C; a temperature often required for the PCB and CCL pressing process.

"Harnessing Ahlstrom-Munksjö's expertise in natural fibers parchmentization we created a new generation of a lamination processing aid that rises to the challenges of the PCB and CCL pressing industry," explained Brian Oost, Vice President of Ahlstrom-Munksjö's Parchment business. "OptiLayup(TM) is a disruptive innovation, finally bringing a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic products used during the lamination process with more functional performance and at a lower cost."

This 100% cellulose composite protects both press tools and laminates with its superior release. OptiLayup(TM) is produced from responsibly sourced and renewable wood pulp, certified according to FSC® standards by Forest Stewardship Council® and is biodegradable & compostable. Additional features include higher temperature resistance, cost-reduction and low static coefficient.
