Airbus SE said Friday that it signed an order for four A350F freight aircraft with French container-transportation company CMA CGM Group.

The binding memorandum of understanding will be subject to finalization in the coming weeks and will increase CMA CGM's Airbus fleet to nine planes, the Toulouse-based plane maker said.

The aircraft, an adaptation of Airbus's A350 long-range wide-body plane, will be operated by CMA CGM Air Cargo, the recently launched cargo business of CMA CGM, Airbus added.

"We are proud to welcome CMA CGM Air Cargo in the group of operators for the A350F and we are equally pleased to support the company's future strategic development," said Christian Scherer, Airbus's chief commercial officer.
