Airbus SE said Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canada-based SAF+ Consortium to collaborate with aviation industry companies on sustainable aviation fuel production and development in North America.

The European plane maker said its contribution will consists of technical and certification expertise, economic analysis, communications and advocacy.

The consortium aims to produce sustainable aviation fuel at its first pilot plant as early as the second half of the year, according to Airbus.

A commercial project of 30 million liters is planned for 2025.
