Shares of eye care company Alcon Inc. touched a 52-week high on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a day after reporting its second-quarter financial results and raising some full-year guidance.

At 11:45 a.m. EDT, the company's shares were trading 11.97% higher at $79.86. Volume at the time topped 2.1 million shares, above the stock's 65-day average volume of 742,088.

Earlier in the session, the stock reached a 52-week high of $80.54 a share.

After the bell Tuesday, Alcon reported second-quarter earnings per share of 31 cents on sales of $2.1 billion. In the year-ago period, the company reported a net loss per share of 86 cents on sales of $1.1 billion.

Also on Tuesday, the company raised its 2021 guidance for net sales to a range of $8 billion to $8.2 billion from an earlier range of $7.8 billion to $8 billion. The company also raised guidance for 2021 earnings per share to a range of $2 to $2.10 from an earlier range of $1.85 to $1.95.
