CHICAGO (AP) _ Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. (MDRX) on Thursday reported a loss of $7.5 million in its second quarter.

The Chicago-based company said it had a loss of 5 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 18 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 12 cents per share.

The electronic health records company posted revenue of $406.2 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $399.8 million.

AllScripts shares have fallen 23% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $7.59, a decline of 28% in the last 12 months.
