Alstom has announced that it has signed a €59m contract with FirstGroup and Eversholt Rail for the modernization and maintenance of five six-car Class 222 trains. These trains will operate under the Lumo brand between Stirling, Scotland, and London.

The contract includes a five-year maintenance agreement worth €47.5m, to be carried out at Alstom's Central Rivers depot, and a €12m refurbishment program at Widnes.

The work will include new ergonomic seats, improved Wi-Fi, repainting, video surveillance systems, and IESS technology to reduce emissions.

The trains, from the Voyager family, will enter service next year. The agreement supports 50 direct jobs at Alstom's two UK sites.
