Alstom reports that the Barcelona tramway has been extended by two kilometers by integrating its innovative catenary-free APS technology. This ground power system (APS) was designed and supplied by Alstom. It eliminates the need for catenary wires, for better urban integration.

This extension will carry an additional 24,000 passengers per day and reduce downtown traffic by 2,000 cars.

This system, already used in 11 cities, operates via a conductor rail on the ground, activated only when the streetcar passes overhead, guaranteeing pedestrian safety.

The extension is part of a wider project to connect the Trambaix and Trambesos networks, adding six stops and helping to reduce the carbon footprint.
