STOCKHOLM--Swedish truck maker Scania AB said Monday that it is joining The Climate Pledge, committing to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040--10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.

The Climate Pledge, founded by Amazon.com Inc. and Global Optimism in 2019, seeks to bring together a group of companies and organizations prepared to move faster and inspire greater climate action. It is led by former UN climate chief and founding partner of Global Optimism Christiana Figueres, and Tom Rivett-Carnac, former political strategist at the UNFCCC.

The commitment to The Climate Pledge means Scania agrees to three principals of action, including to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis, implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, and neutralize any remaining emissions to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
