AMAZON founder Jeff Bezos has criticised the US government by arguing the least affluent are the most impacted by inflation.

It was the tech CEO's second lambasting of President Joe Biden in a week.

The global leader had claimed the US was on track to mark its largest yearly deficit decline ever, to the tune of $1.5 trillion (£1.2 trillion).

In a rare public political statement,

Bezos tweeted: "In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves."

Bezos described inflation as a "regressive tax" which harms the least affluent the most. "Misdirection doesn't help the country," he added.

The Amazon boss had also criticised Biden after the President tweeted that taxing wealthy corporations could help to lower inf lation.

"Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss," Bezos tweeted. "Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection."

Amazon was not named in either tweet from Biden, but has received criticism in the past for the level of tax it pays on its profits.

Across the pond, inflation in the US has reached near 40-year highs while the UK also faces historic levels of price rises.
